Technical Information

Basement level music hall with standing room and limited seating located within the venue and restaurant style seating located within the café. The main bar is located on the café side and a half bar is located within the venue. Restrooms are located in the café and venue.

The stage measures 20 inches off the floor, 17.5 feet wide, and 14 feet deep. Ceiling clearance is roughly 10 feet.

The Southern offers direct street level access to the venue. Trucks and trailers must unload in loading zone a short distance from venue.

One on-street parking spot is usually available on South First Street and additional spots are first come, first served on the 100 block of Water Street.

100amp panel with 13 circuits dedicated to sound and lighting. Stage power includes 4 mounted quad boxes upstage on 3 separate 20amp circuits and 2 mounted quad boxes stage left and right on 2 separate circuits. All lighting is on 5 separate 20 amp circuits.

The hospitality areas offer free high-speed wireless Internet. The area is located directly adjacent to the stage with street level access.

The Southern has a restaurant located within the venue that offers traditional Southern fare including Beef Brisket, Chicken/Pork BBQ, Smoked Sweet Potato, 3 types of slaws and numerous sandwiches and sides.

The Southern is located on Charlottesville’s renowned Downtown Mall, a pedestrian area with historic buildings that feature a wide variety of restaurants, record stores, bookstores, galleries, and shops.
