L.Y.A.O. Comedy Showcase: Sick of Stupid Tour ft. Stewart Huff, Tom Simmons, & Cliff Cash

LATE SHOW - Presented by Hot 101.9

Tom Simmons, Stewart Huff & Cliff Cash are on the road.

We believe that people are looking for an intelligent voice with a southern accent. “The South” is made up of Miami, Austin, Atlanta, The Research Triangle, New Orleans, Nashville, the Appalachian mountains, The Gulf of Mexico, Charleston, Nashville, Asheville and so many more wonderful, cultured, beautiful cities. Those cities are full of intelligent, progressive, talented, cultured people who don’t want to be grouped in with Duck Dynasty, Honey Boo Boo or Ted Cruz. Much like people in New Jersey don’t want to be lumped in with the Jersey Shore cast.  The south has somehow garnered a reputation that pools us all into wearing camouflage and hating gay people. There exists a large portion of the population that doesn’t want to be culled into those categories. Those folks are our demographic. We believe they will love what we have to say. We believe that the antithesis of those stereotypes is something that hasn’t been done yet and the first people to do it successfully can expect a windfall. Intelligent southern comedy exists. We aren’t the first to do it. Some of the best comics ever have come from the south. Bill Hicks was from Texas. It is a genre but it is a genre and a concept without an owner. No one has claimed it. No one has manifested it successfully into a brand or taken it to the mainstream. That is our number one goal. We’d like this intelligent, thought provoking form of southern comedy to be one of the first things people think of when asked about entertainment from the south. We think that can happen one day. One day very soon.

About Stewart Huff: Stewart Huff was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky and grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee. He has been performing comedy for over 15 years, beginning when he decided to drop out of college to become a writer. Currently touring theatres, comedy clubs and special events across the country, Huff reaches past the norm for his genuine — and genuinely unexpected — comedy. His knack for embracing the foibles of humanity and his refreshing originality make him as likeable as he is hilarious. A storyteller at heart, Huff continues to amaze with his clever material and personal wit.

Huff has performed in comedy clubs nationally and internationally, including the Improv in Los Angeles and New York, the Punchline in Atlanta and the Funny Bone in Omaha, as well as countless others.

A finalist in the 2006 Boston Comedy Festival, Huff was also invited to perform in the HBO Las Vegas Festival, where his act can be viewed on pay-per-view.

He currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his girlfriend. There he drops off the various items he collects while on the road, including an antique barber chair, countless vintage photographs, and an extensive collection of LP’s. She likes this.

He is featured in the documentary Road Comics: Big Work on Small Stages, which was released in Fall 2009.

About Tom Simmons: Tom was born the only boy and middle child to a close-knit family that moved a lot. At a young age Tom immersed himself in reading, from the imaginative world of comic books to the authentic world of non-fiction novels; anything was fair game. Tom questioned everything and everyone, respectfully… but with absolutely no respect at all.

Now a 21 year veteran of stand-up comedy, Tom has remained a power player in an industry where comics fail, and often. For over two decades he has travelled on national tours, headlined comedy-clubs, won comedy festival awards and made numerous TV appearances on major networks including: Comedy Central, Showtime, BET, Bounce TV, Comedy.TV, Laughs on FOX, and COMICS Unleashed.

A self-described contrarian, his style of comedy will remind you of that funny friend who has you laughing so hard your stomach hurts. Pulling from everyday situations as a father and husband, Tom finds comedy wherever he takes a good look. He likes to make stupid people and smart people laugh because he sees himself as both.

Whether it be a corporate retreat, a cruise ship deck or a morning show, this (predominately) liberal comedian has a knack for making people of all walks laugh pretty hard in literally any situation. Tom aims to be that comedian that speaks the truth and says what people can’t, in a funny way of course.

Tom Simmons is blazing his own path (he never moved to NY or LA, contrary to nearly everyone’s advice) and creating a career to die for. If you can’t see him in person (which you will regret), Tom’s comedy albums are available on Amazon and iTunes, he has a Pandora channel, and appears on the popular segment “Mad as Hell,” on the FOX syndicated show, LAUGHS. Tom also writes and shoots the reoccurring web series called “So Then There’s This,” where he delivers his unique take on current events, pop culture, and more.

About Cliff Cash: Cliff Cash is a North Carolina native born in a small southern town where he was exposed to everything from Nascar to banana and mayonnaise sandwiches. Let’s put it this way, he may have had a rat tail at one point. Growing older and seeing more of the world, Cash soon developed a not so healthy love/hate relationship with the shenanigans of southern small town life finding inconsistencies in many of the cultural, political, social and dogmatic guidelines that once seemed to be set in stone.

After going through what can only be described as rock bottom, Cliff decided he’d try stand up at an open mic thinking it may make him feel better to laugh not knowing it would change his life. What it really did was save his life. Seeing through a new set of eyes and knowing what he was meant to do, Cash took the local comedy scene by storm and was opening for national headliners one month into his comedy career.

Fast forward two years and he was writing and performing multiple different 30 minute sets as a feature for many other clubs around the country and is now headlining some of the best Indy shows, colleges, theatres and clubs in the Southeast. Recent winner of the Port City’s Top Comic 2013, Almost Famous 2013, Regional winner of Comedy Central’s UpNext and runner up/finalist in several other competitions, Cash is just getting started. He has been chosen to perform in the Cape Fear Comedy Festival 2011,2012,2013 and Norfolk Comedy Festival 2014, a finalist for the Martin Grant and chosen to showcase at 2015 NACA south. Cash has opened for amazing comics like Michael Ian Black, Bert Kreischer, Jeff Dye, Kyle Grooms, Todd Glass, Rory Scovel, Alonzo Bodden, Sean Patton, Joe Zimmerman, Michael Che, Lachlan Patterson, Matt Fulchiron, Moshe Kasher, Judah Friedlander, Tom Cotter, Carl Labove, Wyatt Cenac, Seaton Smith and many more. Cliff has professionally recorded many 30, 45 and 60 minute shows which are available for sale at www.cliffcashcomedy.com.

I am now done saying nice things about myself in third person. Thanks for sticking it out. I know that was weird for both of us. Let’s do some laughing.
